Key Initiatives to Enhance Our Education System

Fiscal Stewardship & Transparency
Williamson County Schools operates on a $608 million annual budget, funded largely by local taxpayers. Under the current TISA funding formula, the state covers only about 33% of school funding, leaving Williamson County taxpayers to fund roughly 67% locally. Elliott supports working with state leaders to pursue a fairer return on local tax dollars and ensuring spending prioritizes classrooms and teachers. Elliott supports school choice but opposes the Tennessee Education Freedom Scholarship Program, which redirects public school funding without addressing academic gaps within the system. Strong schools require financial discipline, transparency, and accountability.

Academic Excellence: Back to Basics
While Williamson County Schools performs well overall, the data shows clear gaps: 31% of students are not proficient in reading and 36% are not proficient in math. Elliott believes those numbers demand action. He supports a strong focus on early literacy through Science of Reading (phonics-based instruction), improved math fluency standards, and measurable progress tracking. Before expanding programs or adopting new trends, the district must ensure every student masters the fundamentals.

Real-World Readiness (with Disciplined Technology)
Williamson County Schools’ vision is to provide a supportive environment where students are challenged to pursue excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. Elliott supports strengthening that mission by ensuring curriculum, instructional materials, and technology are age-appropriate and aligned with high academic standards. He believes classroom technology should be purposeful and limited in early grades, with digital tools regularly evaluated for effectiveness and AI introduced thoughtfully as a support tool — not a replacement for critical thinking. Excellence requires clear standards, strong fundamentals, and sound judgment at every grade level.
